Memorial Day Weekend

This weekend was the start of Joel's first vacation in 18 months. His last vacation was spent becoming a father for the very first time. This time - we're hoping it will be less eventful and more relaxing. Yesterday we went down to Yelm to get everyone together for an offroad adventure. For those of you who don't realize - Joel's passion is getting in his rig and going on trails that test not only manuevering skills but also the structural integrity of the vehicle itself. The relationship Joel has with his trucks and his surroundings is really phenomenal to watch.

It's unfortunate that I can't seem to let go of my anxiety when we go out. I am just a wimp at heart. I love to hear the stories, the pictures rock my world, but I just can't get over my worries to have a great time. Unfortunately for Joel it won't be our "together" hobby. I really try, and I do have a good time, but the anxiety overwhelms me. So yesterday he was patient with me gasping as he investigated different trails and I was patient with Sarah as she squirmed and wiggled in her carseat wanting to check out the action from the passenger seat with Uncle Christopher.

Needless to say, yesterday was full of fun and adventures. My most favorite time was after we were done wheeling and I got to shoot one of our guns. I was so excited!! I told Joel THAT could be our together-time. Right next to us shooting in the gravel pit was a .50 calibur rifle. The force of the explosion coming from that thing was incredible. It was an adrenaline rush just to watch it. (Sarah was in the car with Chris while we were at the gravel pit so don't worry - she's not deaf now.)

So far, this week has started off well. I love to see the old relaxed Joel back in action. Progress on his hot rod should make some headway. Right now as I type he is out working on the shifter for the transmission. Sarah is also enjoying the extra time with Dad. In fact, she is insisting on Dad being around instead of me. She did not want me to push her in the swing, she only wanted Dad. Same with blowing bubbles. I'm a third wheel these days!! It's kind of nice really...

These two pictures are from inside the Jeep before we even started. I didn't take any while we were wheeling - but friends did so I have to try and get my hands on those.

It looks like you are ready for some adventure. I would like to go shoot our guns but Justin says they are wimpy and we need to get real guns to shoot before he'll take me. this is the opposite thinking of a guy. my thinking (which of course is correct) is why would we buy more guns if we don't shoot the guns we have now? where is the incentive in that? I am glad you had fun, maybe when I am a week from delivering you guys can take me four byin' and bounce this baby right out? How much longer is Joel off work?
