i looked out the window...

Some of you might know the Primary song 'Popcorn Popping'...for those of you that don't it goes a little something like this:

I looked out the window and what did I see?
Popcorn popping on the apricot tree!
Spring has brought me such a nice surprise!
Popcorn popping right before my eyes!

When the kids sing this they do all these cute little hand motions and get all excited.  My girls actually love this song.  We sing it often in the car.  Allison knows all the words by heart so she'll sing it in her room sometimes.

The other morning I let the chickens out to roam.  And all of a sudden, I looked out the window and what did I see?!  (Actually I just looked toward the back door because I heard a noise and this is what I saw):

Four little chickens were staring at me!

Yup, they are a little clingy.  If I am outside they'll roam all over the place, but if I'm inside while they are free ranging they will stay on the back porch and jump up on the table outside and stare at me.  It's hilarious and ridiculous.

The barred rock who hated me always when she was bitty is the most talkative and clingy.  She'll chase after me if she thinks I'm going inside after opening their door.  She always updates me on all the goings on in the morning as I get them food or water or snacks.  She's my favorite only because she hates me so much that she can't live without me.  :)

They are getting bigger and stinkier.  I had some anxiety yesterday and thought that maybe I should get rid of them because I still can't figure out composting but Joel talked me down and told me it would work out and I'd figure it out eventually.  I love that guy.  I think he's pretty attached to these girls as I am.

What do you do for your composting? do you just have a pile out in the corner somewhere? a wood box? or did you get fancy and get a store bought composter thingy?

I just mix the wood shaving bedding/poop combination with some dirt and water and grass clippings in an 18 gallon tote. I mix it with a shovel every few days. I think it actually was starting to work because it stopped smelling! I thought that was a huge step, myself. :) So I dumped the non-smelling stuff on our hill side to finish it's process so I could make room for the next batch of poo-shavings. :)
