out with the old

So this week has brought a little change to our family.  We finally sold our Jeep.  This was kind of a heavy hearted sell.  We'd been back and forth for about 6-8 months on whether we would sell it.  We loved being able to throw everything in the back, toss the kids in, and literally drive wherever we wanted...mostly it was down to Joel's dad's place to go off-road and camp or something...but lets be honest we did that only a handful of times.  Mostly it was a back-up vehicle if we needed it, a towing vehicle, and gas-hog.  So finally, Joel said two months ago, 'get me a for sale sign, I'm selling it!' And it took the full two months but she's sold.  And my heart aches already.  Mostly for what could have been but would not have really been.  She was our 'we COULD do that - if we REALLY wanted to' vehicle.  The sale gives Joel the extra money he wanted to tune up his current Datsun truck, finish painting the Thunderbird (which will hopefully also be sold soon after), get exhaust for his 302 Datsun project, and maybe if there's any money left over, fix his 4x4 Datsun that we'll be bringing up from his Dad's place soon (hopefully!).  Wow, that's a lot of vehicles.  It seems like as soon as we get rid of one the hole in our hearts requires us to look for more.

Thankfully, Joel has also  been in a purging mood so we've been getting rid of lots of extras around the house (like tires, and fuel tanks, and engines - you know, the usual right?)  It's nice to think that our yard might one day have some visual appeal - but right now we'll go with functional and accessible.

Sarah has also experienced some major changes.  She started summer school at the elementary school she'll be going to kindergarten at.  I am so grateful that she absolutely loves it.  Her teacher is one of my old college friends.  Ironically, this gal and I took our very first introduction to teaching class.  Who would have though 10 years later she'd be teaching my Sarah-girl.

While I'm thrilled Sarah started school I am NOT thrilled that there has already been a lice outbreak in her little old class.  We are lice free so far but I'm FREAKING out.  I actually got some tea tree oil to spray that repels the lice.  I tried it on myself first and it's a good thing I did since it was too concentrated and now I've given myself a burn on my own scalp.  I was itchy and burning on my noggin ALL DAY yesterday and now I know why...

Beyond that we're pretty much rolling along as usual.  I'm in a purge and organize mode these days.  The house is a mess but I have lots of goodies for an upcoming garage sale.  Much to Joel's pleasure I have also decided to splurge on some new glassware so we will not be drinking out of our mason jars anymore...as awesome as THAT sounds.  It's almost as classy as our yard.  Maybe that should tell me something right there.  :)

Purging is good. "Simplicity" said Thoreau, "Simplify, Simplify, Simplify". Feels good to the soul--- and makes room for the real "Must Have"'s! My biggest problem is clothes, because I might lose that 5 pounds and wear those, and I might find the perfect purple shirt for that skirt, and I might...! You're wise to recognize that tendency about the jeep, that is was a "MIGHT" vehicle. Whatever replaces it 'might' give a lot more actual enjoyment! xo
