Brown Socks

All my life I've always really worn white socks. I have a weird matching quirk in that I get a little over-paranoid about whether I match, so much so that sometimes I probably don't match because I get so focused on the details. This is probably why you don't see me in much more than jeans and t-shirt most days. Right now I own about 90% white athletic ankle socks and about 10% other colored socks. Most days I wear my white ones but sometimes when laundry is a little behind or when Sarah picks my socks I end up wearing one of the 'other' colors.

Today, Sarah picked my brown socks. As I was walking around the house cleaning up, making breakfast, catering to the needs of Sarah, Allison, and Emmet, I looked down at my feet, saw the socks, and thought - wow, I feel like an adult. I know, I know, I'm almost 28, married and a mother of two...I AM an adult. Sometimes you just get those realizations like 'Whoa, is this really me at 27?'

So my brown socks brought to me this vision of a wife, mother, homemaker and teacher. Maybe a teacher of mine used to wear brown socks? This is not the first time I've had this feeling - I've felt it before wearing these brown socks. I don't wear them often but I feel kind of special in them...like I'm playing dress-up and real life is waiting for me when I get my white socks back on. Too bad I haven't really lived up the wife/mother/homemaker/teacher role today since we've really only watched movies, eaten pb&j's, read books and played. Oh wait, I think those count!

I wonder what it is about those seemingly meaningless things that end up giving us the "ahh haa" moments in life.... I come across these things randomly that open my eyes like someone else living my life for a split second. I loved this post. I wonder if it helps that I'm grotesquely in love with the color brown!?!
