A Day Off With the Husband

Joel had the day off today. Normally his days off are spent working on a vehicle or working at my parents house, it's not really a day off for him. But today was different. We didn't try to do anything different in particular - but it's been one of our most enjoyable days together in a while. Joel and Sarah played in the dirt together - more Sarah playing and Joel weeding my future garden bed. I mowed the lawn and also mowed the crazy weedy vacant area around our driveway. Hopefully it will also be a garden bed in the next few years. Later this evening I also mowed the driveway hill area and the area that would be a sidewalk if we had them in our neighborhood.

Overall we got much accomplished. Sarah was a gem today. She LOVED playing outside with Dad. She was dirty - in fact I was still finding dirt in her hair after her bath. Sarah is such a funny girl, the dirtier, muddier, the better. It cracks me up, and makes me cringe at the same time, watching her play with her daddy.

I ate the first tomato off our plants today. It probably was only about 85% ripe but I'm telling you - best tomato ever. It's the Gardener's Delight variety. Apparently from what I've read they are thought to be the tastiest in the world. I'm sure that's up for much speculation. I have two ginormous Gardener's Delight's and two Oregon Spring plants. Joel is eagerly awaiting the ripening of all. And my raspberries have little flower buds (read: future ACTUAL raspberries) so that is going to be phenomenal.

In between all this yard work and play, Sarah managed a 3 hour nap, and Joel and I got to enjoy some extra sleep as well. This is a day for the memory bank as one of the best in a while.
