Pinewood Derby At It's Best?

Last night was the Elder's Quorum Pinewood Derby that Joel and his counselors planned. They did a few reminder calls to a few of the guys in the ward and anticipated what was going to be a fantastic event with dessert potluck items for everyone. So I made a double batch of fudge brownies and Joel prepared his derby car. As 7pm rolled around, Joel and I eagerly awaited the arrival of the derby runners and their families. At 7:15, Joel's first counselor and his family (my friend Kristi is his wife!) showed up for the race. At 7:45 we decided it was time to race despite the only two cars there were Dave's and Joel's. It was super fun even though we lacked participants, we used it as a great opportunity to get to know each other as families and let the kids play together. Joel mentioned later that he was glad for only Dave and Kristi coming as it was his first 'event' as President of Elder's Quorum and he might have been a little stressed had it been huge. We really had a blast and I got to bring home a huge pan of brownies...life is good. :) *For those who are interested - I didn't eat all the ding-dongs, I packaged them in separate baggies and stowed them away for later. My enchilada meal was fantastic, I got the recipe from the Campbell's Soup website if anyone is up for enchiladas and has minimal ingredients on hand. :)

Yeah, that was my first thought, too!! I have to tell you I've had Ding Dongs on my mind since you brought them up. When I was in high school I used to take my lunch money to Wolf's store and buy ding dongs and chocolate milk for lunch. I had to run both ways to make it in 25 minutes, but it was so worth it. It's so interesting how one event will be hugely attended and another one not. Sometimes the same exact event but in a different month gets a different reception. If one person was uplifted, strengthened, or otherwise cheered it was worth it. Rock on, Joel-mon!

I look forward to the day when we get to make pinewood derby car's at this house, because I have seen many but never watched the whole process and wonder how Lucas might do at this someday. sorry about the poor turnout, but hooray for the extra brownies. Now that is what I call a good event!
