With the arrival of the new year I've been feeling prompted to get some food storage and emergency supplies together. I had a smallish supply of dry goods from the cannery but knew that a larger order needed to be in the works to create the cushion I was looking for. Today I had the opportunity to go to the cannery and get food for not only myself and my family but for my sister and her family as well. Jaimee's husband has been feeling the itch for some food storage for a while so it was nice we could all work together (they provided childcare while I went down to Bremerton) to make it happen! I can't express the feelings of assurance that having long term food storage brings. Albeit we won't be having steak and eggs or fresh green salads in an emergency, we WILL have the necessary food groups needed to survive for a while.
My next step will be to start gather 4-10 cans of extra food with every major grocery trip I make so that we can have some alternative foods for the not-so-long term if there is an emergency. Tuna, canned corn, canned veggies, spaghetti-o's, and/or the like would suffice.
I've also been feeling like Sarah's room needs a good purging! We finally moved the giant cardboard castle out of her room last week. That has been on my to-do list for a while but I could never seem to ask Sarah if she'd part with it, fearing I'd break her heart. Well, I asked her and she said ever so simply, "Yup, it's old." I asked just to make sure, "You mean you are okay with it going in the garbage?" and she responded with a small smile and quick nod of the head, "It's old, Mom." Love my little girl.
So Sarah's room is free of the castle and a large rocking chair so guess what that leaves room for? A little sister named Allison! I'm hoping within the next few months we'll be able to transition them into the same room. Anxiety sets in when I think about trying to nap them at the same time, and bed times etc...but if Allison starts sleeping well through the night (or continues to) then we should be in good shape!! With two girls in the same room it will leave the office open again for some rearranging and re-purposing.
Also on the list of organizing and re-purposing - Joel and I...okay okay...I am thinking about doing something a little different with our dining room. The idea of a corner bench nook really appeals to me. Not only will it provide some extra storage but it will open up the room a bit and make it seem bigger (I hope). There are several details that need to be figured out before we even attempt the endeavor but I'm excited at the prospect!
