Have you ever had so much to say in your heart that it all jumbles together and you could never put it as eloquently in words as you feel it? I'm right in that moment. A friend of mine from high school posted a blog about the world, government, and the political parties. He's always been passionate about what he's believed and frankly, he has put into words some of the things I feel too. But he mentioned a subject that is touchy to me, especially in the wake of watching the General Conference on TV this weekend.
This friend mentioned, or implied I suppose, that people use religion as an excuse not to take action in this world because it won't matter in the long run. And 10 years ago, I'd have agreed. Five years ago even, I'd probably give him a high five. But now that I know what it is to be a Christian, or let's not even say that, how about I know that God lives and that Jesus Christ is our Savior, I strongly disagree with that generality.
We are taught through scriptures and talks given by the leaders of the church to take responsibility for our lives and the ripples that we make in the world. Whether those ripples are affecting people, animals, our Earth, or even the air we breathe. We owe the greatest respect to ourselves and everything around us. God made these things for us to enjoy but also for us to take care of.
Although I do believe there is a most glorious afterlife awaiting me, I am by no means going to use that as an excuse to sit back and throw my hands up in the air as I pour gasoline in the rivers or cheat people out of their hard-earned money. That is not Christian, it is not what God has intended us to do, as far as I understand Him. It's a terrible thing to be lead astray by those few people who hide behind the faith they claim to have. If there one thing I take comfort in my faith it is that I have been promised by God that he will not allow a false guide to lead us astray. If we adhere to the principles and precepts taught by the scriptures and pray to know the truth we will know what is right.
This might be babble, and it probably is, but I can't help but respond in my own way to a statement that crucifies some people who answer to a much higher power than any government, public, or legislative judge. If you take your faith seriously and you know the truth there is no excuse to be inactive.

You never cease to impress me Jenna. Your faith, your strength, your insight and the amazing growth you've shown as a person and a memnber of the church constantly amazes me.
I agree with Zach and will add that was written pretty eloquently. I like that you have these brainy thoughts and opinions it leads me to believe I could develope some too. Smarty. If we were in a debate and you said all that to the opponent I would say "yeah" like I was a 5 year old. Love your comments and your rants. :)
Rants are good. I was at a staff meeting and a colleague, impressed that I don't ALWAYS have to share my opinion said, "Good job not spewing today." I had to work to take THAT as a compliment. :) mama
