When I was pregnant with Sarah I was working at the bank and had really fabulous insurance coverage, in fact, I was double covered through Joel's work as well. It was fantastic. This baby may be a bit more expensive. I think we paid out maybe $250 with Sarah after all was said and done. This baby will be more like $2500. Joel keeps telling me to get over it, that it's our baby - it's worth it. While I know it's worth it, it just was so much easier the first time around!! :) I'm having to communicate more with our insurance and the doctors offices to make sure I know what is covered and what isn't. On a good note, only one ultrasound is covered so we can have one around 16 weeks where it will be unlikely that we'll be able to see 'parts'. This is good because then I won't be as tempted to cheat and find out!
Today was my first official doctor's visit. My bestest friend Sarah came and met me so she could keep an eye on the Squirt while I was examined. We visited for a while and thenafter I was all done she brought the little one back for an unexpected flu shot. I've never had one before but apparently us pregnopolies need extra protection. So Sarah (little one) and I braved the needles and endured the sting. We were troopers. Then afterwards we went and had a little lunch at the local grocery store and after THAT visited Nana at the hospital. It was fun to show off Mom's grandbaby to all her coworkers and friends.
It's T-minus 1.5 days before my trip to California. I'm so excited but a little bittersweet leaving Joel for so long. It's really the longest we've been apart since we were married. And Sarah just loves her Dad. Hopefully she'll be well-behaved during the trip, especially on the plane! I bought some children's benedryl at the store today and will be testing it on Sarah tomorrow to see if it has the intended sleepy-effect. Apparently sometimes this method can backfire and actually create more energy and anxiety in some children. I hope Sarah isn't one of them.
So tonight and tomorrow will be spent doing laundry, enjoying Joel, and packing for our adventure down south. Yay! And when we come back we'll be closer to Halloween which means only one thing - one more holiday closer to Christmas!! :D

I don't know if you've heard of this, but having children chew gum on takeoff and landing can help with the whole ear-popping thing. It was funny because on our last plane ride, a little boy across the aisle was complaining about his ears hurting on landing. I asked the father if he had any gum. I think the father was perplexed as to why I would ask and said he didn't. I was like, "Oh, well, I heard chewing gum helps kids with their ears popping." He's like, "Oh." Then he got out a bag with candy including Double Bubble gum (you know that sick cheapo gum that we all love) and gave it to his son. Then he asked if his son felt better. The boy said no, but he seems much happier than before and no longer was complaining. It was just funny because I asked if he had gum and he lied. Ha, ha! But I understand since he probably thought it was weird that I asked.
