Recup and Recap

Well, Sarah and I are home safe after a whirlwind weekend with family in California! The trip was all success and some much needed family time was spent. Although Joel and I felt like we were dating again talking until all hours on the phone and commiserating on how long it would be until we saw each other again, but it was worth it. I think Joel and I now have a rekindled appreciation for each other.

The weekend started on Thursday with gathering as a family in the evening and treating ourselves to my favorite buffet-style restaurant, Fresh Choice. If you haven't been there and ever get the chance - please go. It's cheap and delicious AND it's all you can eat!! The following days were spent going between family homes and enjoying great company and food. We drove all over the bay to visit houses we've lived in and more family.

Sarah's vocabulary increased by about 40% this weekend. At night she would say, Night Raani, Night Randi! (My uncles) and she loved Gizmo, my aunt and uncles dog. And Gizmo indeed loved her too. Every time we went somewhere Sarah picked up a new word or two. Just before we left Sarah got her bunny nibbled on by Gizmo and she cried saying, "Puppy bit my bunny". It was pretty much the cutest thing ever.

The flight to California was a harrowing journey - she screamed nearly the whole way. But the trip home went better as our DVD player was completely charged and working. Blue's Clues saved the day. The only grumpy part of the trip home happened when we encountered a very irritable lady on the phone who complained loudly that she had just been invaded by a bunch of screaming babies. They weren't crying, and if she wanted crying, I could have made it happen. And as Sarah escaped my grasp excited to be free of the stroller a pair of ladies said in a disgusted tone - to each other - "Did you treat YOUR children like that?" "Never." "Yeah, that's ridiculous." Oh PLEASE. She's two! A nice older man, in his sixties, smiled at me a moment later and said, "I just want you to know, she's not bothering me. She's two, it's what they do isn't it? She's really sweet." I wanted to cry and give him a hug. Then he added, "Well, it doesn't hurt that I am half deaf!" We laughed.

Anyway, we're home now. We're happy to have our dad and husband around. Little baby #2 has decided it's big enough that my pants no longer zip all the way up. I am not even three months yet! But I've only gained two pounds so I'm not feeling too bad.

Oh my, the things people say... don't you love it? Keep a sense of humor, it helps. I especially loved the strangers who would pat my tummy like they were my mother or something. Or tell you all about their delivery in the grocery store line. Or wait! How about the lady who told me that because of me there wasn't going to be enough food for HER children! Yes, that was an interesting day. Interesting how we lose our memory of things as we age. I'm pretty sure all my children slept all night from the first day home, never wet the bed, sucked their thumbs, never had a pacifier beyond 1 month, no, probably never had a pacifier come to think of it. Never cried in public, never asked for anything. My children never picked their noses, never pushed anyone down, always shared their cookie........ glad you're home. Sarah can come cry at my house anytime. Love, mama
