It started as a garage sale...

Today my sister and I held our second garage sale of the spring/summer seasons of 2008. I think we've had garage sales during the summer for the past couple of years. Some years are definitely better than others. Each garage sale we have we attempt to sell a bar my parents have had for years. They bought it with a house they purchased in California some years back and when we moved up here it never did seem to have a real place to call home. We were always re-arranging it with no success at a permanent and convenient location.

So for almost ten years we've tried to sell it at our garage sales. The price started pretty high and has gradually been lowered according to the interest in it. Well, today was our day to sell. I made the sale for much lower than we would've liked. I worried maybe my dad would be bummed about the price but really it was a relief for him to get it out of the garage I am sure.

What did he do with the smaller than expected proceeds? He shared them with my sister and I. My dad has always been the first to sacrifice for the women in his life. He's always supported my mom in all that she has wanted to do. My dad always made it clear that if we were ever in need, we could turn to him and my mom for anything.

I was telling my dad how grateful I was for the generous gift he gave to us today and the shining example he is to his grandchildren and my eyes welled up with tears. I thought back to watching him carry Sarah out to me. I thought he was bringing her out to give her to me but he was just carrying her around talking to her and making her laugh. He noticed this morning she was a bit grumpy and put her in highchair with some water. He's a grandfather. The man that raised my sister and I as a stay-at-home dad is now the doting grandfather of eight beautiful kids. And they all think the world of him.

At today's garage sale I only netted about $10. But seeing the love, kindness, and generosity that rests in my dad's heart was worth more than we could bring in over a lifetime. Happy Belated Father's Day, Daddy. Thank you for your love and support through out my life. I love you.

Nice work on the garage sales, I have never actually had one of my own, I have contributed... well that's not true last year my neighbor had one so I put some stuff out too, my big success has come through craigs list. my 5th wheel hitch, two sets of tires a fifthwheel, and a car. not too shabby. Are you feeling any better? what is the difference in symptoms between a cold and a sinus infection?
Mom said you are working on your retaining wall, I would love some pictures???

It was nice to see you guys at brittany's grad. hopefully we'll get to come out again at the end of the summer. one time, jacob's friend's dad gave us the keys to his storage unit(he and his family had been living on an island in the pacific for a few years) and said he didn't want to deal with it. we transported everything and had a huge yard sale. it was really fun!
